I had been planning and planning for this day for years, knowing that if and when it arrived I could not hesitate and I would simply need to fork over the cash and lock it up before it had a chance to scurry away. When you've been working on a project for a decade or so, money becomes no object at the tail end of the chase if the project means anything to you beyond something to pass the time.</p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjwkvcCG3sX5jilIits_5bKkmH978yp1VhlGpTTHV16gWsTzN4IEIN-SmPxAvZMUl8mdftw7Ri9LX7O0u_Yavxw9qvNGGieK55MiQIw6jeizPk3PwCIP9pDoSXAkmzfheNT17xC3ts6-xAXN7TfDYnH_gFaOCmoyhbp1V300EOxeiOS3w7iSFo24BNZwlPu/s1043/Babcock%201%20of%201%20Archer%20Sketch%20Krieger.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1043" data-original-width="742" height="640" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjwkvcCG3sX5jilIits_5bKkmH978yp1VhlGpTTHV16gWsTzN4IEIN-SmPxAvZMUl8mdftw7Ri9LX7O0u_Yavxw9qvNGGieK55MiQIw6jeizPk3PwCIP9pDoSXAkmzfheNT17xC3ts6-xAXN7TfDYnH_gFaOCmoyhbp1V300EOxeiOS3w7iSFo24BNZwlPu/w456-h640/Babcock%201%20of%201%20Archer%20Sketch%20Krieger.jpg" width="456" /></a></div><p>My <a href="https://photos.google.com/share/AF1QipNGWiilUaTlrtbTAAF4WN9dkOCPbprqJgbflYlZbKK9EwUo5axm9xt00ZR4Z2JyFQ?pli=1&key=ZWNLU21xWHh3Z1RhdDlrSllIVTNvdUtobFg0eXFn" target="_blank">Archer Sketch Card Quest</a> certainly is more than just a fun way to pass the time. The set is my favorite non-sport set of all-time and one of my absolute favorite sets of any kind, period. The sketch cards are absolute beauties and it's a true treat to have a little piece of the portfolios of some of the talented and dedicated artists who worked on the show.</p><p>A few of the artists from the show only crafted a dozen or so sketches, making them insanely tough chases in a product that yielded about 3,600 total sketches. That would mean 0.003% of the available sketches came from each of these "higher-end" artists, so finding them -- let alone acquiring one -- is near impossible.</p><p><a href="https://aprilbabcock.wordpress.com/" target="_blank">April Babcock</a> is one of those super tough virtuosos of the drawing world. She was a Character Designer and Illustrator on somewhere between 13 and 44 episodes of the show, depending upon which internet resource you trust. Her style was very unique and I had hoped and prayed (to the cardboard gods) that one day I would track down that needle in a haystack.</p><p>The sketch featuring my favorite character, Krieger, made it all the more imperative that I did not wait and jumped on this opportunity from my long-time source of all things <i>Archer</i>. April references Season 4's "<a href="https://archer.fandom.com/wiki/Viscous_Coupling" target="_blank">Viscous Coupling</a>" (Episode 5) in her artistic rendering of the good Doctor's tentacle porn escapades watching <i>Fisherman's Wife II: The Re-Tentacling</i> with his virtual girlfriend. </p>Greg Zakwinhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/09064188830164937436noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3958775228784031495.post-44884858336677175862024-03-01T07:00:00.000-08:002024-03-01T07:00:00.129-08:00Come On Buddy<p>Let's kick off March with Part 2 of my recent <a href="https://photos.google.com/share/AF1QipNGWiilUaTlrtbTAAF4WN9dkOCPbprqJgbflYlZbKK9EwUo5axm9xt00ZR4Z2JyFQ?pli=1&key=ZWNLU21xWHh3Z1RhdDlrSllIVTNvdUtobFg0eXFn" target="_blank">Archer 1 of 1 Sketch Card</a> pickup. It's never been a goal I have put a particularly large amount of energy and effort into. If I'm being frank, I've never really put any energy and effort into it. Hell Yes!<p>My love of <a href="https://photos.google.com/share/AF1QipOF4xosCpH4q1u39ZhY32XL6HOTxbiUGraJpCc5d1dgCS75-fOwSH1Ej59P9KhDLg?key=VkZId25ZWHBEVllPWFNZcEE3ZDFMZHROdlk1Qk5n" target="_blank">Type 1 Original Photographs</a> continues to be strong and a primary driving force behind my collecting. I check a few sources often and when a beautiful vintage photo pops up that also aligns with one of my player PCs, I make a concerted effort to lock it down. Today's featured photo fits that bill and I was absolutely thrilled to scoop it up off of eBay a couple of years ago.</p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiW-PuXD4DcKufbqq47Jvwxofe8bPHYMFugyma35oDspMvFvJ2tz-qpzBTI7w5qegVizqpXINsnN_yfp3Gy8GRPEa64c1MWqDSmt6WJS-sSYwkVc5eyuxC74J6VHjJeJ80zHdVq5xlQvgT7lQNVgIFlf77FxU2XzU4SPCqcv2cbm-9P-UgH_Tz8eQHVbGSg/s1600/Cobb%20Yost%20'27%20Photo.jpg" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1600" data-original-width="1180" height="640" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiW-PuXD4DcKufbqq47Jvwxofe8bPHYMFugyma35oDspMvFvJ2tz-qpzBTI7w5qegVizqpXINsnN_yfp3Gy8GRPEa64c1MWqDSmt6WJS-sSYwkVc5eyuxC74J6VHjJeJ80zHdVq5xlQvgT7lQNVgIFlf77FxU2XzU4SPCqcv2cbm-9P-UgH_Tz8eQHVbGSg/w472-h640/Cobb%20Yost%20'27%20Photo.jpg" width="460" /></a></div><p><a href="https://photos.google.com/share/AF1QipNjCxQnh33uQcYyjpb7e2TSHJwHNBdWRXdGorsEcI7YbfnpzB0SYbcE2Vusl6bS2g?key=RldFQnlCSnh5TGJsSlVSakduWkJEWmNIM0hMdDhR" target="_blank">Tyrus Cobb is in the building</a>! This stunner was available online for some time before I pulled the trigger. I wanted it from the beginning but it was pricey and I was hoping there might be a price reduction from the seller if it sat long enough. Eventually I rationalized that the small amount it might be discounted did not outweigh missing out on it entirely.</p><p>This circa 1927 image of Cobb as a member of the Philadelphia Athletics is extra special because of the man he is standing near and what he signifies in relation to the Georgia Peach. The other man is Fielding H. Yost, head coach of the Michigan Wolverines football team who led the school to six National Championships.</p><p>Yost and Cobb are together in this photo because the A's were in Detroit for Ty's first game back after leaving the Tigers. It was a true celebration on "Ty Cobb Day" and Yost is sporting a ribbon on his jacket with that phrase. I love the photo itself, the story behind it, and the Philadelphia elephant mascot on Cobb's uniform being prominently displayed.<br /></p><p>The other draw to this photo that certainly played a role in the amount of cash I had to shell out is that Cobb actually owned it. The photo comes with a letter of provenance from a woman whose grandfather was a close personal friend of Ty after they met as teenage teammates. He gifted his friend the photo and it eventually made it down to the young lady. Owning a piece of Cobb history from Cobb himself was just too good to pass up!</p>Greg Zakwinhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/09064188830164937436noreply@blogger.com4tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3958775228784031495.post-73150188215829359772024-02-12T07:00:00.001-08:002024-02-12T07:00:00.139-08:00A Sandy Koufax Rookie Year Pickup!<p>This post is titled very carefully as I know not everybody considers rookie year items that aren't Topps or Bowman to be actual rookie cards. On all of my T206 pickup posts I like to include some fun info on the player after reading through their SABR page (and perhaps their Wikipedia page as well). However, for the first time ever, the player I'm showcasing <a href="https://sabr.org/bioproj/person/dominic-mullaney/" target="_blank">doesn't have a SABR write-up</a> or a Wiki page.</p><p>A little internet sleuthing did reveal Mullaney <a href="https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_Major_League_Baseball_umpires#M" target="_blank">umpired 36 American League games</a> in 1915 and was <a href="https://www.jaxhistory.org/portfolio-items/old-time-baseball-player/" target="_blank">the first manager</a> of the Savannah Pathfinders of the Southern League, a franchise that would eventually call Shoeless Joe Jackson and Curt Flood two of its alumni. Dom also managed a local bar in the area.</p><p>What really drew me to this copy of Mullaney's T206, other than not having one in my T206 PC and the image being stellar, is the lack of color on it. Maybe it was just drowned in some kind of liquid and lost its color, but I prefer to think of the card as missing color passes from the printing process. If it is missing color passes, it falls into the scrap T206 category, something that <i>always</i> calls my name.</p>Greg Zakwinhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/09064188830164937436noreply@blogger.com2tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3958775228784031495.post-31612127233120147102024-02-07T07:00:00.000-08:002024-02-07T07:00:00.251-08:00(Zack) Wheat Wednesday: 1914 Spalding Baseball Guide PageHere's another great addition to my collection within a collection. I have long wanted a card of this player for reasons that are fairly obvious, and it took some time to dedicate myself to tracking one down. The card was part of my venture into submitting to SGC now that I no longer have an employee discount at PSA. The turnaround time was great and I'm a fan of the black tux slabs. They say patience is a virtue. While that may be true, it more often than not blows. I don't need instant gratification to be happy but there is a nice middle ground between instantaneous joy and waiting 10 years for something to materialize. But wait a damn decade I did for the below to finally reside within my gracious and giddy clutches, and it will never ever leave them.<div><br /></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgseEAvShg7sUBj929OHhkdsFXp1Qi67axcxddgm411cowmq-mWSIlqxhAddmoMWBlUxmnHhKBKPHCLNub2h11S9ypbSEBTMP-9G2-nkqkRiX4FZZtxdHoOZ6JaG9BMIMbsmRXCb8rlte41QpLG51hwmMs6bb3KEYkQspMCzydsD7bpDETsYCx_Ur1Xktje/s1043/Sam%20Ellis%201%20of%201%20Archer%20Sketch%20Lane.jpg" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1043" data-original-width="742" height="640" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgseEAvShg7sUBj929OHhkdsFXp1Qi67axcxddgm411cowmq-mWSIlqxhAddmoMWBlUxmnHhKBKPHCLNub2h11S9ypbSEBTMP-9G2-nkqkRiX4FZZtxdHoOZ6JaG9BMIMbsmRXCb8rlte41QpLG51hwmMs6bb3KEYkQspMCzydsD7bpDETsYCx_Ur1Xktje/w456-h640/Sam%20Ellis%201%20of%201%20Archer%20Sketch%20Lane.jpg" width="456" /></a></div><br /><div>When I decided to collect the <a href="https://photos.google.com/share/AF1QipNGWiilUaTlrtbTAAF4WN9dkOCPbprqJgbflYlZbKK9EwUo5axm9xt00ZR4Z2JyFQ?key=ZWNLU21xWHh3Z1RhdDlrSllIVTNvdUtobFg0eXFn" target="_blank">Cryptozoic Archer Master Set</a> including at least one sketch card from every artist, I was a little late to the party. I know I missed out on some really good deals and multiple rare artist sketch cards by not committing sooner and not being willing to spend slightly over my means when I could have done so and survived it. I understand why I didn't want to spend the dough at that time....but it was only later on that I realized just how rare and difficult some of these talented artists would be to secure and add to the collection.</div><div><br /></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgAnY1aNoyGm3E0J-VYCn1kzW1Yekl9PbXT76askqZc_xoyAe6LWqjG29vde67-JDVDMt3Jpgd1LBf_RbPUivsfln0bisCaH6RybHyIJJTHgQ8k6n-JTtFG5phHpiypLfvCx65SyuAzqQW5tr_EEj0HdrWWjm1lhwEnNyWgQriahe2XJ89qvF4zpaAvVoLo/s1080/Sam%20Ellis%201%20of%201%20Archer%20Sketch%20Lane%20episode%20match.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="665" data-original-width="1080" height="246" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgAnY1aNoyGm3E0J-VYCn1kzW1Yekl9PbXT76askqZc_xoyAe6LWqjG29vde67-JDVDMt3Jpgd1LBf_RbPUivsfln0bisCaH6RybHyIJJTHgQ8k6n-JTtFG5phHpiypLfvCx65SyuAzqQW5tr_EEj0HdrWWjm1lhwEnNyWgQriahe2XJ89qvF4zpaAvVoLo/w400-h246/Sam%20Ellis%201%20of%201%20Archer%20Sketch%20Lane%20episode%20match.jpg" width="400" /></a></div><br /><div>Flash forward ten years and I've narrowed down my needs list (artist-wise) to three souls, all of whom worked directly on the show. I was content with likely never seeing them appear as each artist produced less than 14 sketches for the release. However, as I was standing in line for a card show earlier this month, I decided to hop on eBay to pass the time. I checked my "Archer sketch" saved search as I do about 10 times daily and I was floored with what was staring right back at me.</div><div><br /></div><div><b><span style="font-size: medium;">SAM FUCKING ELLIS!!</span></b></div><div><br /></div><div>I did a double take and was stunned speechless for a handful of seconds. I couldn't click Buy-It-Now fast enough and after a harrowing few days of no movement on tracking, this beauty arrived safe and sound in my mailbox.</div><div><br /></div><div>Sam Ellis served as a Designer, Illustrator, Artistic Talent Scout, Lead Trainer, Lead Character Designer, and Lead Illustrator on <a href="https://www.samellisportfolio.com/p/archer.html" target="_blank">Season 1 of <i>Archer</i></a>. While his time on the show was brief compared with some other artists, he left an indelible mark on the program. As Ellis notes, he was "instrumental in the design of the characters, props, and vehicles for the show." He was a big force in the specific look of the characters to help them blend into the ambiguous time period the show is set in. A distinctly Season 1 aspect of the show that disappears in Season 2 when Sam leaves is the perspective shots of many of the characters where we see them with the camera facing up (as displayed prominently in the above sketch card and almost all of Ellis' contributions to the set).</div><div><br /></div><div>This sketch may not be from an exact scene although it feels <i>very</i> familiar. The color of Lana's mini sweater dress in Sam's sketch narrows it down but without re-watching those specific episodes I pinpointed what I believe to be the moment it depicts. I think this originates from Season 1, Episode 3: "<i><a href="https://archer.fandom.com/wiki/Diversity_Hire" target="_blank">Diversity Hire</a></i>."</div>Greg Zakwinhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/09064188830164937436noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3958775228784031495.post-52268420440875991792024-01-11T07:00:00.000-08:002024-01-11T07:00:00.150-08:00Support Your Local Thunder-God!Here is what I believe to be the final addition to <a href="https://plaschkethysweaterisargyle.blogspot.com/search/label/Marvel" target="_blank">my stack of slabbed stickers</a> from Marvel and the 1970s. Tracking Down a PC Grail!Today's card is a major, major addition to a long-dormant PC that used to encompass at least 50% of my collecting life. It's not that I don't still like this player or remember the good times or care. My personal interests have shifted primarily to vintage items over the last 5 plus years and with that change came a lack of searching for modern cardboard and a lack of desire, to be honest. However, some cards pop up and have to be chased no matter the situation....and this is most certainly one of those pieces of cardboard.<div><br /></div><div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjManjDkJMJ-AgEBiOpn_z-4UqOWCIoSbJCA6pCfnp5inlfa0c7U4Odn7j4ol1WHsmU96HX6aOf1eZceViWL3yiFg6aJjjACCq5sFf1gUiFTi7DDg1SLEQGw_nHkpmQL8G8dci-g4jqOapeXNhUnkJAzVo9X4oRTvUSLKFewrQA2PPH_iNa5AI9Hu9UrPnL/s4032/Kemp%20Bowman%20Chrome%20Gold.JPG" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="4032" data-original-width="3024" height="640" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjManjDkJMJ-AgEBiOpn_z-4UqOWCIoSbJCA6pCfnp5inlfa0c7U4Odn7j4ol1WHsmU96HX6aOf1eZceViWL3yiFg6aJjjACCq5sFf1gUiFTi7DDg1SLEQGw_nHkpmQL8G8dci-g4jqOapeXNhUnkJAzVo9X4oRTvUSLKFewrQA2PPH_iNa5AI9Hu9UrPnL/w480-h640/Kemp%20Bowman%20Chrome%20Gold.JPG" width="460" /></a></div></div><div><br /></div><div>Gooooooold baby, sweet sweet gold! When I spotted this 2005 Bowman Chrome Gold Refractor Auto limited to 50 copies and graded a 9/10 by BGS on eBay, I knew I had to make a run at it. It's about as good of a Matt Kemp rookie as I could hope to land with the Super and Red highly unlikely. His '05 BoChro rookie has always been a favorite of mine when it comes to Bison cards. The seller was parting ways with his own Kemp collection and this was up at $200 OBO. I threw out an offer I fully expected to receive a counter on and much to my surprise and delight, it was accepted. I paid and patiently waited for my PC centerpiece to arrive.</div><div><br /></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhU0C2KsVEyBHoP02w09rsUZprnujstYISQqWFVWvV_NpqxGOBCkm5awNXdwRX9Fncs1fOscCXRur-LLiQmcdn91hp9EncUMgiy_wL8JwvCMQP7Fzz6G1zjF1NidNBHkBz66jPZnziZUD116Q5al7K5Gs2Q0nWMzpScyYzOJcZ0vPJcGx4xCoesB8WZdHyt/s1571/Kemp%20'05%20Bowman%20Chrome%20Gold%20Auto%20BGS%209-10%20AU.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1571" data-original-width="1022" height="640" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhU0C2KsVEyBHoP02w09rsUZprnujstYISQqWFVWvV_NpqxGOBCkm5awNXdwRX9Fncs1fOscCXRur-LLiQmcdn91hp9EncUMgiy_wL8JwvCMQP7Fzz6G1zjF1NidNBHkBz66jPZnziZUD116Q5al7K5Gs2Q0nWMzpScyYzOJcZ0vPJcGx4xCoesB8WZdHyt/w416-h640/Kemp%20'05%20Bowman%20Chrome%20Gold%20Auto%20BGS%209-10%20AU.jpg" width="416" /></a></div><div><br /></div><div>And wait and wait I did as days turned to weeks. The card made it to Los Angeles where I was living as of this spring and then just died on the USPS tracking. I opened a case with the post office and they quickly closed it, determining the card was lost in the ether. I reached out to the seller who refunded me as we both bemoaned the state of shipping and soon thereafter I packed up and moved to Las Vegas. I mostly forgot about the experience of having such a cool and sought-after card simply up and vanish.....</div><div><br /></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://a.espncdn.com/photo/2010/0629/la_u_kemp01_576.jpg" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="324" data-original-width="576" height="225" src="https://a.espncdn.com/photo/2010/0629/la_u_kemp01_576.jpg" width="400" /></a></div><div><br /></div><div>....until a month or so into my time in Sin City when I randomly received a notice from USPS Informed Delivery letting me know a package was due to arrive. In a stroke of good fortune, she let me know the apartment was still vacant and she would head over to see if the package was in the mailbox. As the above pictures indicate, the bubbler was safe and sound in the mailbox and my Mattycakes was available to be sent my way. Goals, Thoughts, and Stuff For Sale.I decided there was nobody better to ring in the New Year than America's finest, Captain America. My goals this year from a blogging perspective are quite simple. I would like to stay relatively active, with between 5 and 12 posts a month on average. My <a href="https://plaschkethysweaterisargyle.blogspot.com/2023/12/i-now-work-for-topps.html" target="_blank">new job should allow</a> me a stable schedule and time to go through my backlog of pickups. I was able to do a great job of that in 2023, selling primarily through Twitter with a dash of eBay and Facebook mixed in. If anyone reading this has interest in some of my stuff, drop me a line and let's see what we can do. Character Designer; Illustrator; Producer; Associate Art Director; and Art Director -- Hurd did it all. He was part of the 2014 Cryptozoic Archer Sketch Card artist list and his stuff has been ludicrously hard to track down. In searching for Chad's cards, I ended up setting up an eBay saved search. Eventually, I contacted Chad directly and bought two Archer Artist Proof sketches from him, <a href="https://plaschkethysweaterisargyle.blogspot.com/2023/05/patience-sucks-but-it-pays-off-2.html" target="_blank">documented here</a>. However, I left the saved search up and realized Chad contributed to the sketch card world with other wonderful pieces.<div><br /></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgjbUzDsr1_6JMm5BwmxYUdhhR_EW-LHfg68cmH4DPTKVsnSJyYX28_deG1A3eEwJ0ABRIkw5esXCMp7Ar28UKFtVj2OeIE5LlgFOBmSjhHA1jNDOjwQiNvsYLr0-g8bLWWciC4D49bBWsDvpiXBhzATdw_qFR1qYxBhUvPpv-LCVKDQaqQ_j5lWLLoz5ME/s1084/Chad%20Hurd%20Spider-Pig%20Sketch.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1084" data-original-width="785" height="640" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgjbUzDsr1_6JMm5BwmxYUdhhR_EW-LHfg68cmH4DPTKVsnSJyYX28_deG1A3eEwJ0ABRIkw5esXCMp7Ar28UKFtVj2OeIE5LlgFOBmSjhHA1jNDOjwQiNvsYLr0-g8bLWWciC4D49bBWsDvpiXBhzATdw_qFR1qYxBhUvPpv-LCVKDQaqQ_j5lWLLoz5ME/w464-h640/Chad%20Hurd%20Spider-Pig%20Sketch.jpg" width="464" /></a></div><br /><div>When this fantastic Spider-Pig card popped up on eBay for a reasonable sum, I could not resist adding it to <a href="https://photos.google.com/share/AF1QipMorbkvwMkip7ZTiE4noN0E7Q4PT30VCxRxuzGOuS2MYgroiv0wI1ijYVWGkaU8GQ?key=WTF4dHdPczVBRXZBY3E3b3BhZEp6NEYxRktnVVF3" target="_blank">my collection of random</a> sketches and art. These bad boys in PSA 4 form used to run roughly $20 a piece for the commons, but over time that grew to $35-40 a pop. That was too rich for my blood and I slowed in my chase, picking off one or two when they were solid deals. October proved to be a boon, however, and I landed all five of the below from the same eBay seller. Not one exceeded $35 and 60% were right in line with old pricing....much to my delight.<div><br /></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiEDAvo77oRnWONWsyEacaaeByKMMh2y7I7LWXJVE2rRi70lWwbiUWeVL-clSSDpoz3nvh0zgbWlFmQMI8zfn70l_xODKvYpLCxihfBiBQP72-lsvbxjA1hm4u1BhySEXrxOr8AIxq9wDw9BR6fiAn5QZiXede5uCSneoqNfsG9jwPXtGqWDx6qXb_4yuqi/s1649/'62%20Mars%20Attacks%20Panic%20In%20Parliament%20PSA%204.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1005" data-original-width="1649" height="244" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiEDAvo77oRnWONWsyEacaaeByKMMh2y7I7LWXJVE2rRi70lWwbiUWeVL-clSSDpoz3nvh0zgbWlFmQMI8zfn70l_xODKvYpLCxihfBiBQP72-lsvbxjA1hm4u1BhySEXrxOr8AIxq9wDw9BR6fiAn5QZiXede5uCSneoqNfsG9jwPXtGqWDx6qXb_4yuqi/w400-h244/'62%20Mars%20Attacks%20Panic%20In%20Parliament%20PSA%204.jpg" width="400" /></a></div><div><br /></div><div>#16, <i>Panic In Parliament</i>, is first up. Well, it's happened again, but rest assured to the three of you reading this that it is only temporary. I have a bunch of stuff pulled and ready to write up and scan in.</p><p>My new schedule just has me up at 5 am and working until 2 in the afternoon before I head off to my second job (returning home and being completely done and freed up by 5 pm).</p><p>My second job will yield a multi-week break coming up later this month and into the new year, so I will have plenty of time to showcase new pickups.</p><p>So, please stick with me. I've got some cool items to share and talk about and I always enjoy reading comments when they occur!</p>Greg Zakwinhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/09064188830164937436noreply@blogger.com9tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3958775228784031495.post-54309214931528795222023-11-14T06:00:00.000-08:002023-11-14T06:00:00.145-08:00This Mustache On A Penis Is RodneyIt's a rare day that I stumble upon a character my collection of <a href="https://photos.google.com/share/AF1QipNGWiilUaTlrtbTAAF4WN9dkOCPbprqJgbflYlZbKK9EwUo5axm9xt00ZR4Z2JyFQ?pli=1&key=ZWNLU21xWHh3Z1RhdDlrSllIVTNvdUtobFg0eXFn" target="_blank">Archer Sketch Cards</a> is without. But lo and behold that day recently existed as my usual dealer posted a few new pieces on eBay and one stood out above the rest. I reached out to my guy and we worked out a small discount away from fees. I can now cross a small but funny character off my needs list as I picked up this sweet treat:<div><br /></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjLj3eVpKedUBCG-2dJQvYt68NjRJycuM-gDWt_T_My_7STlxTrLW2Rise2DfHzS0pslpDSHSfSt_ezJiCPJ4GKQ62zTDIvaXaSuovJS_MbXeAqwQMaCxnEiM8ZJ37S_cTps0DemjhyS_QMJSgsU_7O2jx7VJzTO7c1FvkvIqRbAwxlDR4H4PmVhr9Ij03N/s1047/Kris%20Justice%20Archer%201%20of%201%20Sketch%20Rodney.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1047" data-original-width="745" height="640" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjLj3eVpKedUBCG-2dJQvYt68NjRJycuM-gDWt_T_My_7STlxTrLW2Rise2DfHzS0pslpDSHSfSt_ezJiCPJ4GKQ62zTDIvaXaSuovJS_MbXeAqwQMaCxnEiM8ZJ37S_cTps0DemjhyS_QMJSgsU_7O2jx7VJzTO7c1FvkvIqRbAwxlDR4H4PmVhr9Ij03N/w456-h640/Kris%20Justice%20Archer%201%20of%201%20Sketch%20Rodney.jpg" width="456" /></a></div><div><br /></div><div><a href="https://www.comicartfans.com/GalleryDetail.asp?GCat=21451" target="_blank">Kris Justice</a> is the artist and appears to have a minimal social media presence -- this is my <a href="https://plaschkethysweaterisargyle.blogspot.com/2017/03/kris-justice-krieger-sketch-archer.html" target="_blank">second from them</a>. Paterson, PSA 4.5 -- The Rarest Wheat?<p>Today's newest addition to <a href="https://photos.google.com/share/AF1QipMtT18qVR23twDaguUsvSpXxawqtkRPQEUVxXCWvG-QdGz9Ds4nzNxs2yLYMJ2wMA?pli=1&key=aTVMT19NcjVEWFVhNmpRZXViQkRNWVlJZDAydG13" target="_blank">my Zack Wheat Collection</a> is probably the Wheat I am most proud to own. My pride is derived not simply from its scarcity, and certainly not from its value. This immense pride comes from what it took to acquire it and call it mine. It popped up on eBay earlier this year and I recognized the username as a Net54 member. I reached out over there to see if I could do any better and to my delight he offered me 20% off.</p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh5ysTBuL2_HX4qqlYT9vCOV_EcNIIHByXL_Gy7NEV587lVNRVZ9YQkoxwN3xTxwvmhk9iqSlYgZkM0RfuDZUW23l3XVLUEUvU5fzoyaPh0lKUB3bxiZTSPpAeNWRa1zmk4gD08ytUZnKXzsifVP64kZZvqvj32jn3yCOhMbfo5e4PedwLy3kgEYHawq7a9/s1623/Wheat%20'22%20Wm.%20Paterson%20PSA%204.5.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1623" data-original-width="984" height="640" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh5ysTBuL2_HX4qqlYT9vCOV_EcNIIHByXL_Gy7NEV587lVNRVZ9YQkoxwN3xTxwvmhk9iqSlYgZkM0RfuDZUW23l3XVLUEUvU5fzoyaPh0lKUB3bxiZTSPpAeNWRa1zmk4gD08ytUZnKXzsifVP64kZZvqvj32jn3yCOhMbfo5e4PedwLy3kgEYHawq7a9/w388-h640/Wheat%20'22%20Wm.%20Paterson%20PSA%204.5.jpg" width="388" /></a></div><p>The price was still extremely high based on what I usually spend on my collection. I had a plan and the first part was seeing if the seller would allow me some time to raise the funds. He obliged, and I was positive the next part would fall into place with patience and persistence. I was going to have to sell and sell and sell some more, which would be a brand new avenue for me in this hobby I love. It was not just the high price that prompted me to decide to finance my purchase with sold funds, but losing my job a few months prior was another huge driving factor.</p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjejBD4CzlCS0qdBUUG9YD1zukhetZcnCpYNE6vHHejPIo6Ualu6c00dCi3py0CnNXRiAWGTo_Y6tz2lsnNX83fl8qAg9DMNtmjDObe09iKhSCYr0G0OlZQYYJ1QmXuWI2suriXZxnDEdGAHgRdhPuQ0XPChpm9qUVEcgm3ErMf6MC8-4l4Um-QOm79_jAK/s1646/Wheat%20'22%20Wm.%20Paterson%20PSA%204.5%20back.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1646" data-original-width="1013" height="640" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjejBD4CzlCS0qdBUUG9YD1zukhetZcnCpYNE6vHHejPIo6Ualu6c00dCi3py0CnNXRiAWGTo_Y6tz2lsnNX83fl8qAg9DMNtmjDObe09iKhSCYr0G0OlZQYYJ1QmXuWI2suriXZxnDEdGAHgRdhPuQ0XPChpm9qUVEcgm3ErMf6MC8-4l4Um-QOm79_jAK/w394-h640/Wheat%20'22%20Wm.%20Paterson%20PSA%204.5%20back.jpg" width="394" /></a></div><p>Off to Twitter I went to hawk my wares and -- with a few eBay sales mixed in -- I was able to fund the entirety of the purchase about 3 months later. I didn't sell anything super expensive but I jumped into as many B/S/T threads as I could; I joined a baseball-centric sellers group; and I reached out directly to people I came across. I moved as much as I could and moved anything I was not tied to emotionally or that did not fit directly into a main PC (Wheat, Campy, Ruth, Jackie, Cobb, Archer, etc).</p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhNgehVdKxf9JC3HoG6f43Cwq4lj9bZw3ddB0a5ndJU47LGKsjGxfyn7VIdCbeEAgbUA-RTQVX6y5-qQQ_JpNmD-p_jRz-sCoO3TqhoNNhb7GDftmwRmhOHpNYNtO4aQzM_MbQr5o2j6ZVggOcsoh9VQbJ4UcKVqmEtF6tCyV-_HpdDdwAhn9NGtSeEmcGd/s2048/Wheat%20'22%20Wm.%20Paterson%20PSA%204.5%20twtr%20pic.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="2048" data-original-width="1638" height="400" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhNgehVdKxf9JC3HoG6f43Cwq4lj9bZw3ddB0a5ndJU47LGKsjGxfyn7VIdCbeEAgbUA-RTQVX6y5-qQQ_JpNmD-p_jRz-sCoO3TqhoNNhb7GDftmwRmhOHpNYNtO4aQzM_MbQr5o2j6ZVggOcsoh9VQbJ4UcKVqmEtF6tCyV-_HpdDdwAhn9NGtSeEmcGd/w320-h400/Wheat%20'22%20Wm.%20Paterson%20PSA%204.5%20twtr%20pic.jpg" width="320" /></a></div><p>I still have far too many cards I do not want and I continue to sell as much as I can every week. It has afforded me the ability to not only buy this Wheat and have it end up as one big trade with no cash leaving my savings, but also has allowed me to pick up a huge piece for my Archer PC and an exceedingly rare Campanella item that will be on its way shortly.</p><p>This 1922 Wm. Paterson of Buck is a POP only in a PSA slab. There is one lesser graded copy in an SGC holder and I'd imagine maybe one or two floating around raw. It's certainly the rarest Wheat I own and have encountered -- and I did not even know it existed before it showed up online.</p><p>The set is Canadian in origin and William Paterson was a candy company.</p>Greg Zakwinhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/09064188830164937436noreply@blogger.com2
