Dodgers Notes From Wednesday's Game 6/16/2010

Dodgers 5, Cincinnati 1

Box Score.
  • Clayton Kershaw went 7.1 fantastic innings (1 ER, 7 Hits, 7 K, 1 BB, 110 pitches - 79 for strikes).
  • Bullpen: 1.2 IP, 1 ER, 1 Hit, 1 K, 1 BB, 1 HR Allowed.
  • Andre Ethier hit his 12th HR of the season, while Manny Ramirez hit his 7th HR.
  • Matt Kemp stole his 10th base of the season.
  • Ethier (HR, 2 Singles) reached base 3 times, while Manny (HR, BB), Russell Martin (2 Singles), James Loney (Double, Single), and Blake DeWitt (2 BB [1 IBB]) each reached base twice.
  • The offense struck out 6 times, drew 3 walks, and had 3 extra-base hits.
  • Travis Schlichting was recalled to take the place of the injured and DL'd Chad Billingsley. In his only appearance of the season, Schlichting threw 4 scoreless innings of relief on June 2nd.
  • Claudio Vargas is back with Dodgers and in AAA with Albuquerque.

Joe Torre's bullpen usage, and usage of the pitching staff in general, frustrates me beyond belief. This is how I picture Joe when he thinks about what to do concerning the staff:

    1. Watching Hong Chi Kuo work a second inning in tonight's game was so upsetting. Joe Torre sucks.

    2. I was against Kershaw starting the 8th, but if you start him, let him finish it, especially when it's DeWitt making an error on a fairly weak ground ball that lets the guy get on-base.

Then, Kuo and Broxton never pitch/warm-up.

And Schlichting should have been given the 9th.

So annoying, but sooooo typical of Torre.
