So Here's My 1949 Bowman Roy Campanella Rookie Card.

I could probably never again chase after another Roy Campanella card and be a quite happy and content man. There are two holy grail Campy cards, and considering how much his 1952 Topps card will run you, there's only one that's legitimately within reach. A handful of months back, I was able to get my hands on that other Roy White Whale.

It's just so damn magnificent. The above beauty is Campy's 1949 Bowman RC and I just can't get enough of it. It's easily the centerpiece of my PC of the Dodgers' legend, and good old eBay came through for me once again. It wasn't cheap but I did get a really nice deal on it due to the cardboard imperfections you see on the front and back. Which, of course, matter not in the least to me.

Here's the back where the deal was really made. If I could change one thing, it would simply be the paper loss at the top left where "Roy" should be, but it's far from a deal-breaker.

  1. Be very proud of what you got. It's got some scuffs, but c'mon, it's from the 40's, amirite?

  2. Cool card. Damage is almost a requirement for a card from the '40s.

Now I'm off to scare myself with the prices for '52 Campys.

  3. Sweet card. One day I will go after a card from the 40's, but today is not that day. Congrats!

  4. And to think I have a spot in my binder just for that card. Thanks for picking it up for me!
