Less Than $20 Landed Me A Johnny Bench PSA Graded 1968 Topps Rookie!

It's not the steal of the century or close to it but this will always be one of my favorite vintage deals. I landed this awesome Johnny Bench rookie card back in 2016 for $11.49 shipped to my door, ungraded. The front is VG but the back is POOR as the sky is blue due to big-time paper loss. Getting it graded for protection was a very easy choice when the cost was just $8.

A PSA 1 is plenty good enough for my collecting desires and I'd rather own a really aesthetically-pleasing low-grade copy of any vintage card than shell out big bucks just to have a pissing contest with the rest of the hobby over who has the nicest version of a card and paid the price of a house to land that "honor."

My Johnny Bench PC is quite pleased today.

  1. That looks quite nice for a 1960s rookie card of an inner-circle HoFer at that price! If I could get a Seaver rookie in that condition for twice that price, I'd jump on it, and I'm a cheapskate who never pays that much for cards!

    1. More often than not I consider myself in that cheapskate class too!

  2. Yeah, I'd be all over that. If the guy had 10 of them, I'd buy them all!

  3. Nice Bench. Card looks nice from the front. Miss the days when submitting a card set people back for under $10. I never actually submitted any cards myself... but cheap submissions led to cheap pickups.
