A Big Ed Walsh Pickup: 1909-12 Sweet Caporal Domino Disc, PSA 4!

Today's addition to my eclectic collection of vintage is my first featuring Hall of Fame righty "Big" Ed Walsh. It was snagged from Clean Sweep Auctions some time ago and sent off to PSA for safe-keeping in the long-run.

These Domino Discs are scarcer than many issues of the period and are quirky, something that always appeals to me. Walsh is the last pitcher to throw 400 innings in a season and the last to win 40 games in a campaign...not that pitcher wins mean squat, although they meant more in Walsh's era.

The backs feature dominos, not surprisingly, in various forms (meaning for player collectors you can find different colors and dice layouts). Walsh managed the White Sox for a season post-retirement; threw a no-hitter during his injury-shortened career; and worked in the coal mines as a youth.
