Getting My 1933 Goudey Dodgers Slabbed -- A Tale of (Somewhat) Success.

Just over 8.5 years ago I completed the 1933 Goudey Dodgers' Team Set. I was super pumped as I adore vintage and it was a really fun project that took some time and patience. I decided to send all of the cards to PSA for slabbing as I liked the idea of displaying the entire set graded. Uniformity, I suppose. After many moons at the Collectors facility they returned to me, but with one small issue.

I've always, always been a low-grade collector of vintage as owning the card through affordability is more important to me than owning the nicest copy. I don't need a bunch of PSA 7s and up on my old stuff -- hell, I don't even want PSA 3s and 4s and 5s. If the price is right, sure -- I'll nab a 2 or 3 or splurge on a 4. But that's rare and I like to target aesthetically-pleasing low-grade copies that possess technical issues.

Occasionally that means buying a really beat copy and my Val Picinich was so run over PSA would not slab it. I'm sure a grader felt it was at risk of being destroyed in the slabbing process. I now must find a graded copy of this to complete this project for a second time. In the meantime, I am quite pleased to have these back in-hand and almost in the books.

Almost....

What's your oldest completed team set?
