Dodgers Sign J.D. Closser

So says the Twitter of Dylan Hernandez.

Closser, who turned 30 on January 15th, is a catcher and has spent time with Colorado in the majors, amassing 508 plate appearances and a .320 OBP between 2004 and 2006. He has not had a major league at-bat since '06.

He has also logged time in the minors with Arizona, Milwaukee, Oakland, San Diego, the Yankees, the Cubs, and our very own Dodgers.

He split 2009 between AA Chattanooga and AAA Albuquerque.

Closser's deal is a minor league deal, and includes what has become the almost mandatory invitation to Spring Training.

I still like A.J. Ellis for the backup catcher's job.

Dodgers Sign Jay Gibbons? Really?

Somehow. This. Happened.

Gibbons will be 33 in March, and spent 7 seasons with Baltimore between 2001 and 2007, amassing 3035 plate appearances. A .260/.314/.453/.768 slash line is what Gibbons produced while in Baltimore.

He also once hit his wife with a foul ball and was named in the steroids controversy that I could care less about.

Commenter SC_Giants_28 summed it up best in the comments at MLB Trade Rumors:

Man , the Dodgers are going to have real deep minor league teams LOL
