Meeting Matt Kemp

I attended the Matt Kemp signing at Living Spaces in Van Nuys earlier today. It's the second time I've been fortunate enough to meet Matt, the first coming back in January at a stop on the Dodger Caravan. A big thanks to Roberto from Vin Scully Is My Homeboy for the tip about the signing.

I knew I had to get to Van Nuys earlier than I had for any previous signing, and arrived at about 6:30 for the 10:00 signing. The event was scheduled for an un-Dodger-like 2 hours, which gave me some comfort. I brought my Matt Kemp bobblehead given out earlier this season. I chose to bring the Gold Glove version which I won on Twitter.

I met up with DodgerBobble and met a lot of great people today. I only got three names: DB's friend Tom; Aaron, an energetic young man of no more than 7 years; and Richard, who deduced who I was from a couple of my previous posts and told me he reads my blog.

Matt arrived on time and the line moved very well, all things considered. We got to Matt around 11:00, and I had him sign the bobble on the head. One of Matt's friends who was sitting at the table pointed out my "The Bison" shirt I posted on earlier this week, and Matt mentioned that he had seen the shirt before and liked it. I asked Matt to inscribe Bison on the bobble and had my picture taken before leaving, and in the process almost knocked over Matt's water. I shook his hand (and the hilarity that ensued is hard to describe, but it's a great memory I will never forget), and headed out. Oh, and as Matt was writing Bison on my bobblehead, he randomly yelled out "Bisoooooon". I truly hope he does that after ever home run.

The remaining line was actually quite short, so I decided to give getting a second item signed a shot. I made it back into the store and was about 50-75 people back when Matt left. All in all, a great experience, and hopefully a regular one in the future. You show me a Matt Kemp autograph signing, and I'll be there. Two shots of the signed bobble to finish us off.

  2. Yeah, I'm glad I asked, he had absolutely no problem doing it. In fact, he seemed like he wanted to write it on more items.

For some reason, the silver didn't "pop" as much this time as it did on my Broxton Bobble. Damn marker, trying to sabotage me.

  4. Richard- Great meeting you as well.

And Living Spaces was fantastic, a shout out was most definitely earned. Hopefully the Dodgers hold another event there in the future.

  6. bleedsdodgerblue- It was nice meeting you. We had a nice group there, a lot of fun and great conversation really made that 4 or so hours go by fast.

Matt is fantastic, the nicest athlete I've ever met. If there's a Matt Kemp signing, I'll almost certainly be there! It was the perfect way to end an un-perfect season.
