Dodgers Notes From Wednesday's Game 6/16/2010

Dodgers 5, Cincinnati 1

Box Score.
  • Clayton Kershaw went 7.1 fantastic innings (1 ER, 7 Hits, 7 K, 1 BB, 110 pitches - 79 for strikes).
  • Bullpen: 1.2 IP, 1 ER, 1 Hit, 1 K, 1 BB, 1 HR Allowed.
  • Andre Ethier hit his 12th HR of the season, while Manny Ramirez hit his 7th HR.
  • Matt Kemp stole his 10th base of the season.
  • Ethier (HR, 2 Singles) reached base 3 times, while Manny (HR, BB), Russell Martin (2 Singles), James Loney (Double, Single), and Blake DeWitt (2 BB [1 IBB]) each reached base twice.
  • The offense struck out 6 times, drew 3 walks, and had 3 extra-base hits.
  • Travis Schlichting was recalled to take the place of the injured and DL'd Chad Billingsley. In his only appearance of the season, Schlichting threw 4 scoreless innings of relief on June 2nd.
  • Claudio Vargas is back with Dodgers and in AAA with Albuquerque.

Joe Torre's bullpen usage, and usage of the pitching staff in general, frustrates me beyond belief. This is how I picture Joe when he thinks about what to do concerning the staff:

    • Hiroki Kuroda went 6 innings (4 Runs [3 ER], 7 Hits, 2 K, 4 BB, 1 Fielding Error, 99 pitches - 56 for strikes).
    • Bullpen: 3 IP, 0 Runs, 1 Hit, 3 K, 2 BB, 1 Hit Batter.
    • Casey Blake was scratched due to back spasms.
    • After entering the game, Jeff Weaver left without having thrown an official pitch due to injury.
    • Andre Ethier (Double, Single) and James Loney (2 Singles) each reached base twice.
    • Russell Martin went 0-4 with 3 Ks.
    • The offense struck out 6 times, walked just once, and had just 1 extra-base hit.
    • Charlie Haeger was activated from the 15-day DL, and Travis Schlichting was returned to AAA after making his season debut yesterday and throwing 4 scoreless innings.
    "It wasn't easy to tell Travis," said manager Joe Torre.
    "I'm just happy I got the opportunity to pitch in a game situation," said the rookie. "They didn't have to explain. I'm disappointed to be going down, but I understand why it happened. They need the arms."

      • Carlos Monasterios went 5 innings (0 Runs, 2 Hits, 3 K, 0 BB, 81 pitches - 52 for strikes). He appeared to have an injured finger after coming out of the game, holding a bandage on his right (?) hand. Blister perhaps? Maybe a cut? He looked to be in some discomfort.
      • Bullpen: 9 IP, 0 Runs, 6 Hits, 3 K, 1 BB, 2 Hit Batters. 5 Relievers.
      • Jamey Carroll stole his 3rd base of the season.
      • Carroll (3 Singles, BB) reached base 4 times, while Matt Kemp (Single, BB) and Ronnie Belliard (2 BB) each reached base twice.
      • Travis Schlichting made his season debut, hurling 4 scoreless innings of relief (O runs, 3 Hits, 1 K, 1 BB).
      • The offense struck out 11 times, drew 5 walks, and had 1 extra-base hits.

      Dodgers Notes From Sunday's Game 5/30/2010

      Dodgers 4, Colorado 3

      • Clayton Kershaw went 5 innings (2 ER, 4 Hits, 9 K, 4 BB, 1 Hit Batter, 1 WP, 98 pitches - 60 for strikes).
      • Bullpen: 4 IP, 1 Unearned Run, 1 Hit, 4 K, 1 BB. 4 Relievers.
      • Matt Kemp (Double, BB), Rafael Furcal (2 Singles), and Xavier Paul (Single, BB) each reached base twice.
      • The defense was charged with another 3 errors, and also lost a ball in the sun. There were a couple of nice defensive plays made though, one by Kemp and one by Paul.
      • The offense struck out 9 times, walked twice, and had 3 extra-base hits.
      • Scott Elbert was returned to AAA after his messy season debut on Saturday, and Travis Schlichting was called up to take his place.

      Travis Schlichting Heads To The 60-Day DL & Return Of The Kuroda


      According to Beto Duran. This, combined with the DFAing of Jamie Hoffmann, opens up the necessary spots on the 40-man roster for Jim Thome and Jon Garland.

      Hiroki Kuroda returned to the mound in his first rehab start after being hit in the head by a line drive. He could re-join the big boys Sunday at home against the Padres.
