During my hiatus of the last 2+ years, I stumbled across a new collecting passion and have jumped whole body into it. Honestly, it's to the point that I sometimes worry about myself. This new love combines my love of sports with my love of collecting with my love of history with my love of unique hobby stuff.
I am officially crazy about tickets! They are much more difficult to come by than cards and with the advent of technology the physical ticket was becoming a thing of the past. With Covid-19 hitting, that has become much more of a reality -- the Anaheim Ducks no longer offer physical tickets, period. I highly recommend ticket collecting to everyone (just not the ones I want 😉).
After diving into this portion of the hobby I really wanted to get my hands on a Babe Ruth home run stub. I missed out on a few and am still in search of one but I was more than happy to "settle" for a stub where the Great Bambino notched a hit.
This beauty popped up on eBay and was had for a solid price. I got it re-slabbed and changed the flip to better reflect why it was an important stub in my eyes. In this contest between the Yankees and Indians on July 22nd of 1933, Babe had a double, single, and drew a walk in a close loss. An extra cool touch is it comes from the season in which baseball first held an All-Star Game, and this particular Yankees' home game occured just a few weeks after that first showcase of stars.
Very cool. Best of luck on acquiring one of those home run ticket stubs.
ReplyDeleteI don't collect tickets per se, but I have been looking for a couple of specific ones for a few years now. So far I've yet to see any them, so I'm guessing that they're rare enough that if one ever even did show up, I probably won't be able to afford it.
ReplyDeleteThanks Fuji!
ReplyDeleteJon -- I think as more people get into the market and see it boom, some of those tougher ones will pop up once or twice. Don't give up hope!
