A Shoeless Joe Jackson Is Finally Mine!

It only took well over a decade of collecting for me to finally land a piece featuring a baseball legend and tough hobby target: Shoeless Joe Jackson. I almost certainly could have picked up more conventional items for reasonable prices had I focused on this goal earlier on, but things happen and players are missed. Owning one now is better than not owning one at all.

I can always find a card down the road when money is more plentiful or the market allows, but for now this sweet 1911 Spalding Guide Baseball Team page pairing the Cleveland Naps and Boston Red Sox will certainly do. Shoeless Joe only has but so many items and none are that affordable, so oddball was likely always going to be the direction I went in. I am a huge fan of these Spalding pages so adding one was always a solid path to finding a Jackson piece to add to my collection.

The added bonus of Joe bringing along some recognizable friends in Cy Young, Nap Lajoie, Addie Joss, Elmer Flick, and Harry Hooper was icing on the random vintage goodness cake.

From The 20th Win of Clayton Kershaw's 1st Cy Young Season....

While most of the tickets I own are Trout, LeBron, or vintage, I have not neglected the great Clayton Kershaw in my pursuit of entries into meaningful games or moments. Today's addition to my collection of stubs and fulls saw Kersh throw 7 innings of one-run ball while fanning 6 back in 2011. The fact that it came against the rival Giants....a cherry on top of the yummy sundae that was this game.

More important than just pitching really well, Clayton recorded Win number 20 in what would end up being the first of his three Cy Young Award campaigns (he also captured the pitching Triple Crown that season). I don't care a lick about Wins as an important statistical measure by which pitchers should be judged, but it is still a beautiful score in its PSA 6 form for my Kid K PC in addition to being a very affordable ticket to pick up.

Cy Young Pickup: Double-Name T206!

Let's end the month with my first Cy Young card! I like having one card of all of the major HOFers and the pitching legend was a noticeable absence from my collection of vintage cardboard. eBay, as it so often does, came through and I was able to snag this absolute beauty:

Any T206 of Denton True Young would be a welcome acquisition, but this one is extra special as it has a quality I much admire within a card from The Monster. I saw this pop up and saw that gorgeous double-name and just knew I needed to make a real run at landing it. The big borders are a nice cherry on top of this SGC 10 Bare Hand Shows cake.

Of the many accomplishments Cy can lay claim to, I like that he also hit 18 homers during his illustrious career.
