Trade With Democratic Roadkill: Rare Kemp, Kershaw, and Martin Ginter Minis (Meeting A Blogger In-Person!)

I completed my fourth trade with Duane from Democratic Roadkill. You can check out the first here, second here, and third here. Duane was in Long Beach for the Grand Prix, and we had been talking trade for some time, so I decided to drive down and meet up with him. We enjoyed some delicious BBQ, talked cards, and exchanged some cardboard. I still owe him big-time and have already started setting aside cards for a future trade.

First up, the first extended RIP mini in my collection (I'm not including what I pulled in my 2013 box of Ginter, as I've already traded one away and probably won't keep the other long term). It's only fitting that it features my main man, Matt Kemp. The RIP minis depict a different photo than the regular mini and base card, and often it's a more appealing photo, as is the case with this 2010 offering.

Let's move back a year to 2009 A&G but stick with the RIP mini theme. This is one of those rare cases where the RIP mini photo is not as badass as the original photo, as I touched upon the greatness of Kersh's '09 Ginter base card a while back. That being said, it's a rare mini of Clayton Kershaw. I love it.

Look, it's another RIP mini Minotaur. This miiiiiiiinnnnniiiiii comes out of 2013 A&G and is a swell addition to my Kid K PC. I once again actually prefer the base photo, though I of course prefer the rarity of the RIP mini.

Well, here's yet another RIP mini. This time around, 2012's offering puts forth a better photo for this rarer variation. Chalk up another sweeeeeet Clayton pickup.

As I've written about countless times before, Russell Martin is one of those rare guys who has no bad cardboard photos. Both this RIP mini from 2008 Ginter and the base card feature great photos.

Let's move away from RIP Card minis but stick with Allen & Ginter. I was able to add this Baseball Back /25 mini, hand-numbered 4/25, of the former Dodger backstop. Another great Russell photo even as he traded in his Dodger Blue for Yankee pinstripes.

Here are the backs of all five of my RIP minis additions, scanned in for your enjoyment (click to embiggen).

Duane, many thanks for the amazing trade, the BBQ, and allowing me to be in cardboard debt for the foreseeable future! It was a pleasure meeting you, and your Ginter mini exploits never cease to amaze me!

Assuming you get there in the morning, I'll see you at Saturday's card show.

  3. Glad he was able to trade the Kemp mini to a Dodger fan as I had nothing to swap of that nature.

My wife is in Long Beach right now. She has no cards though.
