1932 Sanella Margarine Babe Ruth, Type 2 (Sanella At Bottom): PSA 1.5 FAIR

A quick update on a card I posted in December of 2014, almost two years ago to the day it gets re-posted in a spiffy new holder. I only own one playing-era Babe Ruth card and wanted it in a holder because I'm clumsy and holders can often look nice. Off to PSA it went and it found its way back recently.

Unfortunately I fully believe along the way somebody creased it up through poor handling as when I handed it over to be slabbed it was VG-EX and it came back as a PSA 1.5. Although I'm not selling the card it still disappoints me as I've gotten pretty damn good at assessing card condition in the two years I've worked in a card shop which specializes in vintage.

I have no idea whether it was PSA or the people I submitted through who damaged the card -- although I'm decently confident in my guess as to who was the culprit -- but there's no way I would have missed multiple obvious creases when submitting it. It's still a card I'm thrilled to own and I would highly recommend it to anyone looking to add an affordable playing-era Bambino to their collection.

  1. Bummer about the creases but it is still a beautiful card.

    1. Indeed! It's more the principle of the matter for whomever mistreated it haha.

  2. I have that card as well. Like you it's my only playing-era Ruth. Mine is ungraded and it'll stay that way because I worry about sending it off to folks I don't know. Even with the crease you have a terrific card. It's very underrated, I mean damn, it's a real card of Babe Ruth!

    1. Couldn't agree more! I love oddball releases like this. Being my only Ruth and probably the only one I'll have for some time is what prompted me to want it better protected.
