1910-11 T3 Turkey Red Cabinet: Admiral Schlei Checklist Back Offer, SGC 10!

Rarely do I get a card posted within days of receiving it anymore. However, I had to make an exception for today's featured piece of vintage goodness. My boss consistently raves about the 1910-11 T3 Turkey Red set, so much so that it has become burned into my thoughts of pre-war cards forever. One recent night while browsing eBay I came across the below and added it to my watch list.

As the story so often goes, I didn't expect it to stay anywhere near what I was comfortable with, but it did and I threw out a bid. It held and thankfully I can finally cross off Turkey Reds from my must-have vintage needs list. These really are things of beauty in-hand, and the card looks a lot better up close and personal. Plus my scanner has started to throw a huge line down the middle of every scan. Because.....technology.

This SGC 10 of Admiral Schlei was right up my alley with the missing chunk and pinholes. Schlei, while uneventful in his production as a catcher during the dead-ball era, was the first Reds' backstop to wear shin guards and is nicknamed Admiral (after a Spanish War hero, so there's that). He was known for his defense and for being traded twice on the same day (thanks, Internet!).
