Manny Ramirez 66ers Bobblehead Game Recap: Pictures, Videos

Better late than never, right? Plus, I miss Manny. Come back. If for no other reason than to save us from the inevitable Scott Podsednik signing. No amount of smoking hot wife makes him an okay sign.

I picked up this Inland Empire 66ers (R.I.P.) Manny Ramirez bobblehead way, way back in June. I arrived more than two hours before the gates opened, and the line was surprisingly not very long. Which of course made me happy. And actually getting the bobblehead made me even happier.

Anyhoo....and....here....we....go.

Yes, the best light I could get when I took this picture was in the bathroom.

Some pictures I took during the game.

And a few videos I shot to finish us off.

Javier Solano Video

This clip is from the Inland Empire 66ers game on July 24th, against the Rancho Cucamonga Quakes, the Angels High-A affiliate. The 66ers prevailed.

The man on first is Mike Trout, the Angels top prospect and Baseball America's Number 2 prospect in their midseason rankings. He had just singled. Video of that plate appearance to come.

Oh, and Trout could have easily been a Dodger when he was drafted in the first round, 25th overall, in 2009. The Dodgers had the 17th pick that year, but decided to forfeit it for less than a years worth of Orlando Hudson. The Diamondbacks ended up with that pick. Granted, the Dodgers probably would have selected a high school pitcher from Texas with the pick, but still, Trout is just the type of impact bat the Dodgers desperately need in the system, and he could have been ours.

Scott Van Slyke Video

This clip is from the Inland Empire 66ers game on July 24th, against the Rancho Cucamonga Quakes, the Angels High-A affiliate. The 66ers prevailed.

Van Slyke is the son of former big leaguer Andy Van Slyke, who played for the Cardinals, Pirates, Orioles, and Phillies from the early 1980s to the mid 1990s. Andy Van Slyke had a career .349 OBP, .355 wOBA, and averaged roughly 3.3 WAR per season, topping 5 WAR three times, including a career-best 6.7 WAR for the Pirates in 1992.

Scott is also the proud owner of this excellent Fu Manchu.

Site News: Upcoming Picture-Filled Recaps

I've got a few picture-filled recaps coming up. I'll be recapping both Inland Empire 66ers games I attended, as well as the Angels game I attended last Monday night and a Padres game I'm attending tomorrow.

Tons of pictures, some good stories, and my utter failure to do something I should have done.

So yeah, hopefully they're all up by the end of this weekend. Early next week at the latest I hope.

Dodgers News Round-Up

Russell Martin sat for two consecutive games earlier this week, finally getting the rest a catcher should be getting on the regular, as A.J. Ellis actually got a somewhat extended amount of playing time. He only received rest, however, because he's a bit banged up, to be expected for a catcher, but especially one that plays as much as Russell does. Joe Torre is a habitual over-user of certain players and positions (see: Ramon Troncoso's corpsy arm), so any rest for Russ is good rest in my book.
"Just getting another day and getting fully rested," Martin said. "It's just something that maybe one day can make me feel a lot better. I don't want to tell you what it is."
"Just watching him, his swing was getting bigger, longer," manager Joe Torre said. "You'd have to be in the dugout to experience the frustration sometimes when he comes in. It was just time I think to take a step back."
---------------------------

Charlie Haeger was sent back to the DL, this time around with a sprained toe. Jon Link was recalled for the third time this season.
"I just don't think that I'm healthy yet," Haeger said. "I don't want to use it as an excuse."

"We'll just see if we can get this better," manager Joe Torre said.

Link was then sent right back to make room for the re-activated and still-goateed George Sherrill.

---------------------------

Carlos Monasterios starts on Sunday.

---------------------------

Kyle Russell has finally been promoted to AA. It's about time. Though of course this means I won't get to see him Sunday when I head to another Inland Empire 66ers game. And he's the guy I really was hoping to meet this weekend. Oh well.

---------------------------

LSU head football coach Les Miles doesn't believe Dodgers first-round pick Zachary Lee will sign. I agree with Miles.

Site News: Upcoming Week Of Dodger Fun

Posting will be somewhat light the next few days, but once Wednesday passes, my schedule clears up considerably and I'll be able to do more than just the post-game recaps that I'll pump out the next few days.

Some of what you'll see after Wednesday will include a recap of the John Ely event from Saturday, the 66ers game I attended on Saturday, and Tuesday night's Jonathan Broxton Bobblehead Night. I'm also heading back to San Bernardino for the 66ers game against the Rancho Cucamonga Quakes (Angels' Class A affiliate) next Sunday, so I'll recap that as well. Lots of pictures, a couple of videos.

Here's a little teaser to some of the upcoming posts in the meantime:

Great story behind the Martin signature, looking forward to recapping it and other good stuff.

Dodgers Notes From Saturday's Game 6/5/2010

Wasn't around for this one, as I went to the Inland Empire 66ers game with a friend. Awesome finish, 66ers pulled it out in the ninth. Recap with photos galore end of the week. Taped this game though, I'll watch it at some point this week.

Atlanta 9, Dodgers 3

Box Score.
  • Chad Billingsley, coming off of an 11 K, 0 BB performance on Memorial Day, went 6 innings (3 ER, 7 Hits, 5 K, 2 BB, 110 pitches - 70 for strikes).
  • Bullpen: 3 IP, 6 ER, 7 Hits, 3 K, 3 BB, 1 HR Allowed.
  • Andre Ethier stole his 1st base of the season.
  • Rafael Furcal (3 Singles) reached base 3 times, while Ethier (2 BB), Manny Ramirez (Double, Single), and Blake DeWitt (Double, Single) each reached base twice.
  • Charlie Haeger made his first appearance since being activated, throwing 2 innings while allowing a couple of runs on 3 hits, with 3 strikeouts and a pair of walks.

A Magical Day Of Dodgerdom

I'm off to meet John Ely (originally Chad Billingsley), and hopefully meet Jonathan Broxton shortly thereafter, though that seems less and less likely by the moment. After that, it's off to San Bernardino to see the Class A Inland Empire 66ers take on the High Desert Mavericks - the Class A affiliate of the Mariners - tonight at 7:05.

Notable alumni of the Mavericks includes Vicente Padilla, Brad Penny, and Billy Butler.

The first 1500 fans through the Class A turnstiles receive an Andre Ethier bobblehead, the same one the Dodgers gave out on May 18th.

Hopefully I get there early enough. It'll be a fun day regardless.

I'll have a picture recap of the whole day (one or two parts to be determined) up at some point in the week, most likely after Wednesday, I'm positive.
